Squeezebox Media Server and AirPlay?
Hi all,
I wish to use airplay on my squeezebox devices via the squeezebox media server (multi room purpose).
Can one of you point me in the right direction? I'm new to the whole NAS thing but not afraid to fiddle with it.
One way seems to be a plugin called ShairPort - any experiences and/or good guides?
Kr,
Niller

- lucterAspirantlook at the logitech media server app?
- nillerAspirantHow will the logitech media server app make it possible to use (non-logitech) iPhone musik streaming services on a Squeezebox radio and Touch?
- lucterAspirantEnable itunes in the 102 menu and all will be played
You will need the latest Logitech server files provided by member superpoussin: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/ie9pwk1wut72ias/p6_X2QeOIC - nillerAspirantHmm... Am I off here when it seems that will enable the use of a iTunes music library but not activate AirPlay?
I need AirPlay on the ReadyNAS squeezebox server to stream from a Spotify like service on my iPhone to my squeezebox - I dont actually use or need iTunes.
Or do the ReadyNAS "iTunes Streaming Server" have airplay and thus support airplay via the squeezebox server? - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserThe iTunes server in the RN102 is forked-daapd. It will stream music to apple TV via airplay.
However, airplay actually won't play to your iPhone (or to my iPad...). The apple remote app (on the iphone/ipad) will let you play from the RN102 to an apple TV (or another airplay client). But apple doesn't provide an airplay client for the iPhone/iPad itself.
And apple's media players require home-sharing to see your music library - which forked-daapd (and other reverse-engineered servers) can't do.
What you can do is use something like 8player on the iphone with plex (or readydlna) on the RN102. AVplayerHD is another option - it does not use DLNA, instead it access the media with FTP. Both have free trial versions, so you can test them out. - nillerAspirantEither I completely misunderstand or am making myself very unclear :-)
I want to stream musik from an app on my iPhone to my Squeezeboxes (not the other way around).
Kr - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserOk. So the music is on the ultra, the control app is on the iphone, and you want to tell the ultra to stream directly to the squeezebox? Do we have that straight? If so, Airplay won't help - its an apple proprietary thing.
Though I don't have the squeezebox, it sounds to me like you need the Logitech server package installed on your ultra (NOT the OS6 version in superpoisson's dropbox) and the squeezebox iphone app on your phone. The squeezebox app appears to be a "fully featured squeezebox remote".
You should be able to get the ultra version of the server from http://www.mysqueezebox.com/download - "Netgear ReadyNAS Pro/Ultra/NVX" in the pulldown.
EDIT- I've tracked down your shairport plugin reference - there is a link here: http://blog.stuart.shelton.me/archives/762.
It appears to set up the linux box (ultra in this case) as an airplay client. Anything you play to it can be piped into the LMS server (also on the ultra). It looks interesting, but it does not seem to a a turnkey install.
I think to get it to do what you want, you'd need to
(a) install the itunes server on the ultra, and get it set up for airplay
(b) install LMS on the ultra
(c) install shairport, and set it up to pipe into the LMS server
(d) pair shairport with the the iphone apple remote app
(e) access the ultra's itune library from the iphone apple remote app, and select the shairport client as the player
This seems very complicated to set up, and if you are not an iTunes user now I don't know why you'd want to attempt it. It perhaps makes sense if you are running itunes on a Mac or PC, but it doesn't really fit what you are trying to do. - nillerAspirantI really appriciate the help - but just to clarify a bit more: The music is not on the Ultra. It is a streaming service only on the iPhone as an app - just like Spotify. The Squeezebox doesn't support this "Spotify-like" app, but with airplay it could be patched through to the squeezebox - if I get airplay to work on the LMS.
It is exactly that link in your EDIT I have looked at but before I ventured into that challange I wanted to check if a more simple solution existed for ReadyNAS. - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserTake 3- The music is coming over an internet stream to the iphone via an app, and you want to direct it to the squeezebox????
- nillerAspirantYeeeees :-)
Good old paint helping out
