Superslow transfer between NV+ and UBS-1TB drive

Hi guys!

I have a ReadyNAS NV+ (silver chassis) and a year old 1TB USB hard drive connected to it.

I have set up the NAS share as a network drive in Windows 7.
I have set up the USB - hard drive through the NAS as a network drive in Windows 7
I have a Netgear gigabit switch

I'm using a laptop with a wireless network connection.

When I transfer a file from the laptop to the NAS, I get about 5MB/s (ok for me)
When I transfer a file from the laptop to the external USB-drive, connected to the NAS, I get about 4MB/s (ok for me)

BUT

When I transfer a file from the NAS to the USB-drive (just copy paste in windows explorer between the two configured network drives) I get, at best, transfer speed of 1,4MB.

That makes me want to die a little earlier than I was hoping.

Any ideas of what can cause this?

Netgear router and NV+ has jumbo frames support
PC network card no jumbo frames support
Because of that, jumbo frames has been deactivated

Journaling has been disabled
Fast CIFS-writes have been enabled
Fast USB-writes have been enabled

No network errors in the networks tab in frontview

  • When you copy and paste using windows to transfer file from Nas to USB drive connected to Nas it is routing from Nas to your windows machine then back to Nas then USB drive connected to Nas so thats why its much slower transfer, if you want to copy from Nas to USB drive connected to Nas use a backup job that way its transfering directly from Nas To the USB drive.
