Hey JennC,
I connected successfully via both AFP and SMB using a regular user account. I could both read and write files. So, I tried starting a backup using the TM user account, and it worked first time. No other changes. So... good?!
If it recurs, I'll check that I can login manually via AFP first. I can see that'd be a useful diagnostic. Thanks!
