To help isolate the cause of the issue you could use a Thunderbolt to ethernet adapter perhaps?
Ethernet is also useful for faster backup speeds and a good choice to use for the first backup which is a full backup.
Have you tried toggling Bonjour off and on again?
Could you check your router's settings to see if it has a setting for multicasting and enable that? There is a possibility your router may be configured incorrectly or may be incompatible with Bonjour advertisements.
