Time to swap out one of my Raid disks? RN 516 (6 bay)
It’s been quite awhile since I last dropped into this forum. Things have been going very smoothly with my RN516 and I have found in the past that your advice has been dispensable. I’ve come across a...

Yes I am with Gmail. Thanks I found the reference on my Google account to thirty party app approvals and configured it back on the Readynas rhen sent a test email. it’s all working well for the first time ever I think I bought the 516 about eight years ago so thank you Stephen for helping me get the email alerts working. hopefully I’ll be alerted to a impending disk failures a bit sooner. I’ll mark this one as a solution

I'm thinking that your volume is resynced by now - is that the case? If so, is the web ui responding normally again?
We could follow up on getting your email alerts to work (more on that below).

Ive tried to post a snippet of the log into a message but it not working
Sometimes log snippets trigger the automatic spam filter - that's what happened in your case.

Ive bought and installed a seagate Iron Wolf 2TB replacement disk. Im waiting for the volumes to rebuilt. Because I configured the array for XRAID, Im guessing that at the end the process it will add the new disk to the array and write data to it.
You were using FlexRAID (manually configured to RAID-10), and only had one volume. Did you change that, or just hot-swap the replacement?

These bits suggest that
- Disk 5 actually was marked as failed
- The system shut down (so you must have enabled the setting to do that at some point)
- When you rebooted it, the system tried to resync to the failed disk again.
In my opinion (3) shouldn't have happened, but I have seen that before. If it were up to me, the failed disk state would have been remembered by the system, and it wouldn't have attempted to sync to it again.

(If you wondering, I haven't been able to configure the alert message facility to send warnings emails to me)
What email provider are you trying to use? gmail recently made a change that requires you to use an app-specific password (which also requires you to enable two-factor authentication). yahoo also requires an app specific password.

I’ve always left it set to x-raid. Finished rescyncing after about 13 hours. I’ll leave the Nas on today and check the log all seems to be back to normal. I noticed there’s a system firmware update which I’ll apply as well.
Always knew that it was important to have the email alerts ., have tried several times over the last several years to have it work but never always came back with an authentication error.
Cannot send a test message. Check
authentication settings.

I’ll look into your advice about change of the configurations setting. Thanks

Oh okay thanks for that it’s certainly expanding when I add extra disks in so maybe that’s thinking of Flex raid not x-raid . i’m not technical in any sense when I have a problem I tend to fumble my way through it with the help of people like yourself. Anyway it’s fine as I said the email alerts are now working and that’s the main thing
