Probably a long shot geojay, but there IS a firmware update for the ST31000528AS, all-the-way to CC49 (from March of this yr I believe) and maybe you could try updating. It's listed by Seagate as Important fwiw.
I plan to update my own 528's to see if it fixes the "spins up after 0 minutes" problems I have.
