Tweaking RAIDar's Java jre
Can someone maybe answer my question at:
http://www.readynas.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=129&t=63963#p388011
I've done this tweak twice now. It does seem to work fine! Just wondering what to do with the now 'old' jre folders/directories. I do plan to update RAIDar's jre each time Java is updated. BTW, RAIDar v4.3.4 runs quite spiffy using Java v7upd17 ATM. :D

- NASNoob11AspirantDarn guys! Here I am trying to live peacefully with my NAS's, and , you two 'gurus' go and tell me my home's tech-room just became Jurassic Park!!
My V1 Duo is now 4 generations behind, My new pair of Ultra's now seem to be 1 generation behind. Well, such is life!
I might add that all 'tech support' I ever sought for these products came from this forum. Yes, I do share many members frustration with NTGR.
But, as my ReadyNAS products have proven to be my second-most reliable LAN products, I believe I will stick around and 'copy the mail' ! :D - chirpaLuminarySorry for the thread hi-jack NASNoob ;)
For your NAS platform, RAIDar is the only discovery tool of choice. - NASNoob11AspirantChripa,
No apology is necessary. You shared and expanded on stuff I was unaware of. Nothing more. I don't see this as a 'hy-jack' at all.
I asked about RAIDar, you expanded to newer ReadyNAS Discovery I was not aware of; well, until today!
I did get my question answered, AND, I learned a whole lot more that now requires some thought.
That be my personal kettle of fish. No harm, no foul.
Yes, I understand your passion.......I am happy you still share...... :D - gibxxiGuideDon't feel too down Duncan. If your trusty ReadyNAS is doing what you require of it (without factoring in the bugs in the firmware), just relax. I liken this situation to somebody buying a second-hand car to replace their old junker (which is standard practice for most in the UK) and next day seeing your neighbour come home with a brand new Ferrari...
If it works, it works. I see my existing units lasting me a long time. Space will be my only concern, and maybe continued updates to the add-ons developed by the community members here. But that aside, no reason to feel too despondent from where I'm sitting.
:) - NASNoob11Aspirant@gibxxi,
Thank you for your share. No. I have no plan to leave this community. NTGR will do what NTGR does. I watch. I have been running 'Jurasic Park' stuff for the past 25 years. I worry little; except when technology makes some major 'Marketing' leap. I am very happy with my three ReadyNAS devices and their FW/SW/Whatever.
My data is just fine. I do little with my NAS but just save/archive my own chosen files (old audio, old pictures, current client data). My ReadyNAS do my wishes with zero argument. Yes, I do replace some hard drives from time to time. Well, ... just DUH! :slap:
Sorry I sounded despondent. I am not. I am very pro-ReadyNAS.
I will deal with current/new 'technology' as it forces itself upon me, and, try to fold it back into my NAS-stack......But, this is planned for later on! - gibxxiGuideLikewise. :)
