Ultra 6 (not Plus) Expansion - 24TB

Simple question before I ask more questions. :)

I didn't do my homework before I started my expansion path.

Is it possible to run an OS 4 Ultra 6 with 6x4 TB drives?

  • Yes, if you have a current version of the OS and you do a factory default with the drives in place.  But you may want to consider this an opportunity to switch to OS6 since you have to factory default, anyway.

I'm running at 4.2.27 currently and will update to 4.2.29.

Also, is OS 4 BIOS version an issue? Mine is 05/26/2010 FLAME 6.2 V1.1

I'd prefer ro stay on OS 4 unless OS 6 will provide more stability.

My knowledge is rather limited with these things.

      Thanks for the reply.

That's the version of my Ultra6 bios, and it's running OS6.  I believe it's the last (maybe only) for the Ultra6 (not Plus).  It's not really a question of stability that made me finally move to OS6, it's support and expandability.  Expect no further updates to OS4, even security ones.  And if you install OS6, this should be your last factory default, even if you want to install even bigger drives later.  There are a few things I dislike about OS 6 (which I have enumerated in the Suggestions area), but I have overall been happy with my choice to move to it.  Of course, I have stayed a bit behind at 6.4.2 because I'm not quite ready to move from ReadyNAS remote to ReadyCloud (where the cloud user and local user cannot be the same).
