Unable to access shared folders
Hi All,
I'v got 2 (old) identical readynas nv+ v1 devices.
I just configured the second one , exactly the same as the first one.
But every time I want to access one of the shared folders it's asking m...

Thanks for your suggestions.
Meanwhile i tried the following without any success:
1 re-installed OS
2 Checked if I could access the NAS storage without any setting change after re-installed OS. Used again windows, nas device and blank password and user.
3 Checked the workgroup, this is WORKGROUP on PC and on both NAS devices.
4 Compared ALL setting between correct working device and the one with the password issue including reading/writing options per volume.
5 Removed a volume and added it again.
6 Set up newly created volume with a password, there was no pssibility to add a username, even with the set password no access with using username for windows or "admin".Also tried with caps and non caps..
7 As suggested added 2 entries to Credential Manager, IP and hostname. The only difference that made, was that when trying to access the storage space, the username which was added to the Credential Manager was already visible , but when i tried the set password , still i couldn't access the storage space. Also worth to mention is, that the correct working identical device is also not mentioned in Credential Manager, so I guess it's not needed to make an entry for it.
8 Just to be sure I restarted the PC and NAS again...
Anyone , any suggestion?

If your admin password for the NAS is still netgear1, then change that password.
If your PC is running windows 10, then enter "turn windows features on or off", and then make sure the SMB 1/CIFS client is installed.
Then try running CMD (command prompt) from the Windows system and then enter this:
net use * /delete
net use t: \\nas-ip-address\C /user:admin nas-admin-password
Use the real ip address and admin password of course, and be careful with the slash directions and spaces.
The first command terminates any open network sessions; the second attempts to mount your NAS C volume as drive letter T.
Let us know is that is sucessful.

Yes I use windows 10.
I already changed the default password previously.
Ragarding SMB 1/CIFS , there are 3 options.
only SMB 1.0/CIFS server was not tagged , did this now.
The first command(net use * /delete), results in "there are no entries in the list"
The second command results in "The password is invalid for \\NAS ip address\Nas_2_C."
Then i get the following line: "Enter the password for 'admin' to connect to 'nas-ip address':
After the : sign i'm unable to type anything.
when I push enter "system error 86 has occured"
and right after that , the specific network password is not correct
With the password i'm still able to login the frontview, so the password is 100% correct.
As my other 100% identical device is working as it should , i expect that it's a problem with the NAS itself , or the combination from device and windows.
But not really a general windows setting, but of course I want to try anything to get it working:)

What is the \\NAS ip address\Nas_2_C about? It should just be \\NAS ip address\C
If that wasn't a typo, please try it again.

You don't need the SMB 1.0 server installed unless you are wanting the NAS to access the PC (for example with a backup job).
You don't want the auto-removal of SMB 1.0 enabled, as if you don't access the NAS for a while Windows will uninstall the client.

Hi ,
The Nas_2_C, is volume name I gave to the shared volume(visible name in explorer).
I tried as well with only using C, didn't do the job as well...
Somehow I expect as , I bought this device second hand with the current disks , that there are some password settings left behind even after a factory reset.
So last night , I did a volume erase followed by , again a factory reset.
Later today I will setup the device again...hope this issue just dissapears, although í'm curious to know what it causes...:)

Let's clarify this. Your v1 NAS don't let you choose the volume names - they are named like drive letters. The first one is C, and if there are others they are always D, E, F.
Nas_2_C might have been the host name, or it might have been a share name. But it wasn't the volume name, which is what I wanted to try mounting.

You could have just done the factory reset, as that reformats the disks and creates a fresh volume. Let us know what happens.
FWIW, the issue you were seeing has a several causes, including
- Missing SMB 1.0 client on the PC
- Missing or incorrect NAS credentials on the PC
- Incorrect file ownership or permissions on the NAS.
- Filling OS partition on the NAS.
- Mismatched workgroup settings
- Network not classified as Private on the PC.
- Connections blocked by Internet security software
Many of those were already ruled out; the CMD test above was looking at the NAS credential possibility.
- Jason5981May 14, 2018AspirantSomehow it's working now , although I don't have clue why:( Latest actions what I did was: 1 Erase volume 2 Factory reset, set up as RAID 0 3 changed standard netgear1 password 4 removed the created volume C and created a separate volume for each disk(I only use it for non essential data) 5 created shares named as follows: NasC, NasD, NasE with public shares tagged, but this was standard, didn't change it. After this I could access without a password and user popup..... Anyway thanks for all the replies.., problem solved.
