Unable to access SMB-share in Windows 7
I'm sorry if this has already been answered in another thread, but it's the middle of the night and I've been trying to fix this for the last 14 hours or so, and my concentration is waning. I might have overlooked a hit when I searched.
My problem is with accessing the files on my ReadyNAS Duo V2 in Windows 7. I don't know when this problem started, but for some reason I can no longer see my ReadyNAS share in windows explorer, and I'm unable to access it by typing \\ReadyNASname or ip. I'm a novice when it comes to using a NAS, but I've been using it for almost 9 months now without a problem.
I can see my NAS in RAIDar, and the device reacts to my hitting the "locate" button in RAIDar as well. I have to use Opera to access the admin directories, but I have already read that this is a problem with my version of Chrome, so I've managed to see that this is not a part of my problem. I've tried to type "Net View" in the command prompt, with no luck (There are no entries in the list). I have made sure to see to that both my NAS and computer is on the same workgroup, and the ip of the NAS is also shown in my router's admin controls. The RAIDiator firmaware is 5.3.9, and I have two disks (Flex-RAID/RAID 0) of 1TB and 2TB respectively, where disk one is almost full while I can't seem to write to disk 2 at all.
I can access the files without any trouble through either the web browser, or on both Linux-computers in my house. The computer I'm on now is dual booting Windows 7 and Ubuntu 13.10, and I can access the files (both read and write to-) only in Ubuntu. I find that weird, as it's the same computer. I guess the problem has to be with my Windows 7 Ultimate (64 bit), but I'm completely lost as to what else I can do to fix this. I've been googling for hours now, and nothing seems to help. Any ideas from you guys would be really great!

- LrdShaperAspirantIt would help if you post the exact error you are getting when trying to open \\ReadyNASname from your W7 machine
- VyseAspirantSure.
Windows can not access \\ReadyNAS
Check the spelling of the name. Otherwise, there might be a problem with the network. To try to identify and resolve network problems, click Diagnose.
Error code: 0x80004005
Unspecified Error
I first thought it had something to do with my WiFi Extender, but since it works perfectly in Ubuntu on the same desktop PC I don't really know where to look anymore. - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserDoes \\ipaddress work?
Does Windows classify the network as home, work, or public?
Are the NAS and the PC in the same workgroup? - VyseAspirant

Nope :)Does Windows classify the network as home, work, or public?
Home. Are the NAS and the PC in the same workgroup?
Yep. - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserAre the linux systems accessing the share as NFS or SMB?
- VyseAspirantThey're accessing as SMB. I actually just tried with XBMC for Android on my phone as well, and it found the SMB share no problem.
- StephenBGuru - Experienced UserThere are some ideas here that you could try: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/For ... networking
Checking that "client for microsoft networks" is installed was one of the steps.
Also, you might check the policies in the network center (though they didn't list that), and make sure network discovery and file sharing are enabled. - VyseAspirantThanks for the suggestions, but I'm still stuck. I checked if I could SSH into the NAS unit using PuTTY, and I could access the directories without any problems. I'm using this for my mediacenter, which is really the biggest problem with this. I can still access my school files through the web-interface or through my Linux-computers, so it's really just XBMC not finding it that is the biggest problem. Just for kicks, I tried to enable UPnP, and XBMC found one of my folders, but not the other one. It also streamed painfully slow, while it used to be blazing fast through SMB.
I would have just booted Ubuntu on my desktop whenever I wanted to use XBMC, but I was a bit too quick when updating to 14.04 and I don't have sound through HDMI anymore, which makes Ubuntu useless for media. This is really driving me up the walls, and now I'm trying to solve the sound-issue in Ubuntu AND the SMB-issue in Windows 7, and both have a gazillion different solutions posted online, but none of them have worked for me so far. - VyseAspirantAnother update: as suggested by Netgear support, I reinstalled OS to see if that changed anything. It did... now I get asked for a password on my Linux-devices as well, which means my NAS is now wholly unaccesible. This thing is really giving me a headache out of this world!
- RobertDAspirantAny luck..???
I have a similar issue...!!
