Upgrade all disks [ReadyNAS NV+]
Hi all,
I've been a ReadyNAS user since 2009, but only recently decided to upgrade from 2 drives to 4. Currently running 2 x Seagate ST3500321CS, I am looking to change over to 4 x 2 TB drives. I would like to use WD Red, but I can't be quite sure that my model (RND 4250) can handle 2 TB drives. I've looked at the HCL but it's not clear.
Any and all comments are appreciated.
Thanks,
Bob

- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredAll ReadyNAS models can use 2TB drives.
You have the NV+ (v1). 2TB drives are the largest capacity drives that will work with your NAS.
Do you have a backup?
Can you send me your logs (see the link in my sig)? - rlange19AspirantHi,
I sent the logfile to the address in the sig, thanks!

Bob - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredYou are running very old firmware (4.1.5) which was released back in 2009.
I would suggest you:
1. Backup your data
2. Verify backup is good
3. Update the firmware
4. Verify the firmware update is successful
5. Power down the NAS, remove your disks (label order)
6. Insert the new 2TB disks
7. The NAS should automatically do a factory default (wipes all data, settings, everything).
8. Restore your data from backup - rlange19AspirantSounds like a plan. I'll do the backup ASAP. I still have a question about the HCL - will I be able to use WD Red 2 TB units? I need to begin purchasing them.
Thanks! - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredYou should be able to though that model is not on the compatibility list.
I would recommend you backup your data regularly regardless of which disk you use.
