Upgrade from RNDU6320 to ReadyNAS 516

After using the 6320 for quite a while, I am considering upgrading to the ReadyNAS 516, as I'm doing a lot of streaming with real-time transcoding, and ffmpeg, as used by airvideo, seems to be choking most of the time.

Can I simply take the disks from the 6320 and plug them into the 516? If this is an idiotic question, please afford me some patience and kindly offer some suggestions. I tried searching, but nothing relevant came up.

TIA!

  • No, the OS platform is not compatible (EXT4 vs BTRFS filesystem). You would have to setup disks in the new box and copy data over the network.

While it is possible to convert the filesystem, NTGR has not committed to offering that feature yet.
  • Thanks for the quick response. I guess I'll start off with 3 new disks, copy the data to it and expand from there. Since the airVideo server is a x86 add-on, can I assume it will work on the 516?
  • No, the add-on framework has been completely changed. The add-on developer would have to re-write the add-on for the new 6.0 OS.
