Volume does not expand after adding new disk #26757131
Setup: RN516 with 4x 6TB disks (all Western Digital RED WD60EFRX) in X-RAID, running firmware 6.4.1.
I was reaching 90% disk usage so I decided to add another disk (also a 6 TB WD60EFRX). Afte...

Looking at your case support has now triggered a reshape of your array and once that completes the volume will then expand.
The initial estimate as to how long the reshape will take is usually an overestimate. You are using high capacity disks so it will take quite some time. The new disk needs to be synced sector by sector with the other disks to add it to the RAID.

I suggest using your free chat support (support.netgear.com).

Also before you contact support scan in a copy of the invoice for the RN516 so you can provide that if requested. Your profile indicates that your unit was purchased a very long time after the manufacture date, much longer than what is usual so support may see the purchase date as suspect and request a copy of the invoice to verify support entitlement.
Also download your logs so you can provide the logs zip file. I suspect that one of the disks may have been marked as a spare in a RAID layer.

Hi,
Not sure what you mean with purchased a very long time after the purchase date, but anyway, I managed to create a support ticket at netgear.com, and I have already submitted my logfiles. I'll update you guys here and let you know how it goes.

Resync is now in progress:
I'd like to say that this is very good and quick support from Netgear. Just minutes after I submitted the support case I was contacted and asked to send my logfiles. And within an hour the support person called me and we set up the secure diagnostic mode so they could access my NAS. And now it seems like the problem is solved. Very good! Let me add that this is the fifth ReadyNAS I have over a period of 10+ years and this is the first time it has been necessary to get in touch with Netgear support.
