Volume Size and New HDD
I expand my ReadyNAS 316 as needed. Currently Windows 7. Firmware 6.2.2. It seems easiest to have left it on X-RAID2 as a single volume. Added new 4th 4TB HDD WD RED as "hot". All 4 disks are gre...
Problem now solved. Thanks.
Taking out the newly added last 4TB drive and putting it back in again led to Rebuilding as above. Potential trap was that the displayed Data and Free sizes remained at level of only 3 (x4TB) disks until rebuilding finished (after 36 hours!) but this time it said that it was rebuilding and 4th disk light was not green. Now completed figures are Data 6.55TB: Free 4.23TB: Type RAID5: so all is okay. Presumably "proper" rebuilding did not occur on first insertion of the 4th disk although mystery why it should have showed as green. Solution presumably is therefore - if addition of extra drive does not give result expected (remembering limitation that disk size should be same or larger than what is already there) - remove new disk and put back in to encourage a new forced rebuild.
