What happens next when I add a drive?

I have a 3312 unit with xraid loaded with (7) 6TB drives.  The console says raid 5.  If I another drive will the system just exand the space or convert the XRAID to Raid 6.  My desire is go raid 6.  I'm on OS 6.9.

It's supposed to convert to RAID-6.

But I suggest switching off XRAID before inserting the new drive -then you can explicitly add it for redundancy.  It's fine to turn XRAID back on after you've done that (no need to wait for the resync to complete).

I thought it would of gone raid6 automatically when I inserted the 7th drive.  I'll give your recommendation a go.

Maybe Netgear made a change in where it automatically converts due to the new 8-bay NASes?  My 4200's definately went to RAID6 automatically at drive 7, but I was on 6.7.something then.  Manually making sure it does it is definately your best bet.
