Thanks for your reply Etz.
“Basically each share is a separate folder in NAS file system, you delete folder, you delete its contents”…..understand…however unintuitive it is! I was nearly going to write why don’t they have it in the manual (RAIDiator 5.3 SW Manual_5Sep12) but on closer inspection they do on page 34. “Removing a share permanently deletes the data within that share.” So that’s good…that part is my malfunction not the NAS unit, that’s just its behaviour. Albeit different to what most people would associate with what a share would mean from XP and Win7 etc.
I’m trying to delete the backup and media shares because I don’t see how I can use them….all the volumes are my backup not just the backup folder, everything on the NAS I have on other disks.
There are 2 shares still listed as shown on dashboard, “/c/backup” and “/e/”
So I clicked on “/c/backup” and deleted it. I refreshed dashboard and it was still gone…good. I closed dashboard and reopened it and it was still gone…great. I restarted the NAS and it came back! Damn!
It’s not really important whether its deleted or not but its not behaving as it should, which may be a sign of a larger problem. i.e. firmware problem or something I don’t know. So I would like to know what is going on here.
So from here I guess questions become
1. If I delete a share and it deletes the data how do I recover that data as you have said in your last sentence? You said it still exists in console, what do you mean?
2. Why do these shares keep coming back?
3. How do I get rid of “/e/” share without deleting everything in the e volume again?
