If you aren't using admin credentials, the volume name isn't seen when accessing the files - which is why there's no provision to change it. The intended way is for users to access the shares (often by mapping them to drive letters) - in which case the share name is the volume name.
AFAIK there is no easy way to recover data from a deleted share. Certainly there isn't one built into dashboard. Recovering deleted files from linux file systems is not easy - there is a utility called extundelete which claims to do it, though I don't know how well it works or what it takes to install it on an NV+ v2. It would require ssh access.
I am not sure why your deleted shares keep returning - I suggest a support request on that one.
Yeah I am accessing the NAS thru the admin logon on Dashbaord...but it doesn't make sense what you're saying becoz I have 4 volumes and only /e/ share is displayed...why arent they all displayed on the Shares tab on Dashboard if thats true.......somewhere along the line I did something when I was playing around to see how things worked and things got a bit corrupted..thats my theory!
After lots of thinking of what I had done before this started, I think I added a new share, selected volume e but didn't put any name for the share name....which would result in a volume share..thats my theory...but when I tried it again it wouldn't accept a new share without a name so that couldn't be how I did it.
Thats what I thought about data recovery...but I'm not familiar with linux file system...preventition is definitely better than cure
Thanks for your answers StephenB....I'm realising there's no easy answers to my questions!
