I have a more basic question (first thread was closed already): Following my RN526 Datasheet Windows Server is only approved up to 2012 R2. I'd prefer installing WS 2019 Essentials, according to earlox saying he has done it? But need to be sure before spendig the licence fees.
The software manual does include WS 2019 (see page 12): https://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/GDC/READYNAS-100/READYNAS_OS_6_SM_EN.pdf I expect the datasheet simply wasn't updated. It also still has the drive limit of 10 TB, which hasn't been true for some time.

If possible is there a link or doc how to install on a NAS? I only did that on a regular PC before.
I'm not sure what you are asking. Are you planning to set up an iSCSI LUN as a VM datastore? Or something else?
- ThomasNanningaJul 27, 2020GuideThanks for clarification.
We have already two clients using a thick LUN as drive D in W10, this is not what I’m asking for.
I need to install a finance SW with 5 clients and would like to use WS 2019 with it AD services. As the RN526 NAS is running anyway is it possible or does it make sense to install it on that platform rather than adding another PC in the rack?
Or has anyone here who is reporting WS issues installed that on a dedicated machine?- StephenBJul 27, 2020Guru - Experienced User

So this sounds like you want to run WS2019 in virtualbox or something similar. You'd have to install that with ssh.
There aren't many here who have posted anything on this - here is one post I see. https://community.netgear.com/t5/Using-your-ReadyNAS-in-Business/virtualbox-5-2-on-ReadyNas-6-9-0/td-p/1420641
The RN526x only has 4 GB of RAM, which I think will limit performance (both for the VM and the NAS itself). It is possible to increase the memory, but opening the chassis can void the hardware warranty.
I'd look at running the VM on another PC in the rack (one with more memory, and more easily upgradable if necessary).

This is definitely the decision to be on the safe side.
Someone reported here on upgrading CPU and RAM in his NAS, also mentionng the warranty issue.
If someone has done a WServer installation on his NAS even though, would be nice to hear from his experience.
