mdgm is correct in the RAID configurations.
The XRAIDs will allow for dynamic volume expansions. The two options with the ReadyNAS is XRAID and Flex-RAID. The XRAID will help maintain your volume, where the Flex-RAID will have a static volume.

Hi I have a readyNas Ultra 4. It had 4 disk but 2 (disk1 and disk2) of them were marked as dead/failed. I tried to replace those 2 disk but the rebuild failed (maybe because disk 4 also starting to fail during replacement)...
i'm trying to recover. in the recovery tool i need to pick the raid scheme (raid0, raid5, raid6 etc), i'm plugging in the original disk 1/2/3/4 - which raid should i pick? i'm trying raid-6 but seems to take a long time to scan...
