Yet another Duo that won't boot
First off, I've read all the posts on boot issues with the Duos, but that doesn't mean I haven't missed something. :-)
Second, I have pursued this with support. They have concluded the device is dead. I'm not 100% sure they're right, but I can't figure out how to prove them wrong.
So, as with others who have posted here, I had a situation where a power outage interrupted power here. The device is connected to an APC battery backup/surge suppressor, and has in the past shut down gracefully when the mains power is interrupted. This time, once the power came back on and the storm had passed, I started the unit back up. It goes from the fast blinking power light to the slow blink, I do not see drive activity, and I do not see network activity other than link. It's not pingable (so, obviously, RAIDar doesn't see it). I've performed a reset. I've connected both of the disks to my windows PC using a USB converter and can "see" them and they seem to be healthy. It will not boot with no disks, one disk, or two disks. I re-initialized one of the disks and re-installed to see if it would boot with it, no luck.
So, I'm asking if there's anything else to try before I give up on it?
Thanks.

- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredWas the network cable protected by a surge protector too? It is possible a surge could go along an ethernet cable and render the NIC dead.
When you boot it up with no disks installed it is not seen in RAIDar? - wsmithjrAspirantThe network cable isn't surge-protected directly, no. The cable line coming into the house is (I have cable internet), and all of the network equipment is on power surge suppression. I think that's unlikely (but not impossible). I do get link... the lack of drive activity lights is what makes me think support may be correct, I think it should at least try to access the disk during boot. When I do a reset, I see the drive status lights come on as they should (to indicate the reset has happened).
Yes, with no disks I still cannot ping or access via RAIDar. - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredI think support's conclusion is right.
Do you have an up to date backup? - wsmithjrAspirantYes, this is used primarily as a backup of my home systems. So, I have the source at the computers. I'm just trying to figure out if the NAS is salvageable.
