Does the Arlo Pro 2 hardware (base or cameras) support 5ghz yet?

No..the base uses only etherent, the cameras use 2.4ghz to the base for better range.

 

Only the Arlo Q cams and Baby use 2.4 or 5 ghz ( hook directly to your wifi without base )

The likely reason for using 2.4GHz is the increased range possible. The higher the frequency, the more easily the signal is blocked.

As above, not just range as in distance but 2.4 has a better ability to pass through building materials
