I took this from the SmartThings forum.  A users first impression in regards to motion.

"Again, motion seems to work just fine. I didn't notice any delays with the system right now. To me seems about the same as the other motion sensor I have been using. I have already created a few events to trigger by motion. I noticed that motion reset itself rather quickly. I would stand still for a minute tweaking settings on my tablet only to take a step and set off the motion again."

When he states "other motion sensor I have been using", I am assuming, since he has a SmartHome setup, he is comparing it to just a motion sensor that he probably was using to trigger his older Arlo camera, which we all know has a delay.

If I am correct, that is good news for the Pro.

I still want to here from our members!

My experience is all outdoors.  The clips I've had show a small increase in motion detection (may a couple of feet) but nothing dramatic.  My delay is pretty much the same - stepping out of my front door picks me up slightly faster using the Pro but only maybe half a body's worth.  Both get me almost instantly.

The big difference I've seen is that the Pro hasn't been picking up street motion at all.  How that's possible I have no idea but may be from the dual PIRs (comparing each other to decide what is motion?).  We'd need engineering to tell us.  Here's a library link to what I mean - the old camera is recording but the Pro never blinked:

Here's links comparing the cameras from two views - you can tell which one is from the Pro by the audio:

Hi JG,

Thank you for the clips!  I truly appreciate it!!!!!!!!!!!!!  That first pic of the Heavy machinery, now that's impressive, cause I know my little old Arlo would capture that, eventhough I wouldn't want it to.

Actually I can see a difference.  Your placement is already optimum and the reason why you are not noticing much.

If I had to guess, where I have a couple of cameras that are not positioned as instructed from Netgear, I think the Pro maybe able to capture without the need of a second camera to trigger.

One question, at what sensitivity did you have your Pro at?

Same sensitivity for all cameras - 98%.  I haven't played with that much.

Correction. Just remembered that these were in the Armed mode so 80%.

I saw these people at my door today and I was surprised that I heard a whisper telling the other person there was a camera.

Yes, the mic seems to have great sensitivity. The mailman dropped some packages at our door and walked next door. I could hear the steps from 20 feet away as he passed between our cars and onto the neighbor's grass.

So, can you have the camera trigger from sound?  If so, have you tested that?

Curious what sound level or what type of sound will trigger the camera.

Yes, in my garage it triggers on sound set at the #4 setting. When it hears the garage door opening it starts recording. My front door I have the sensitivity on the sound at default setting of 3, sometimes a loud airplane will trigger it. I like the sound triggering, but you will have to find your sensitivity levels. My dogs barking can trigger my cameras if I am out of town and set it that way.

Thanks, I think I'll be picking up Pro soon and will play with that feature.

I have trains in my backyard.  Talk about false triggers...

Thanks for sharing the videos.

Im still a little concerned about the motion detection improvement if I am being honest.  From what I am reading, if you have a legacy arlo camera your only going to see a "slight" improvment.   Improving the camera wake up time to 150ns, adding a second sensor and fresnal lense, I was hoping for a signifcant improvment.......

Hula,

I just got 2 Pro's with a base and I can and I will give you my honest review on motion detection.

Is it better than the Arlo, absolutely!  The problem here now, is they react fast, actually pretty fast, but you are now limited to range.  They say 23', I say more like 15' for absolute capture of subject, that's when it's set up outside.  When placed inside, it seems greater!  20' away, no problem.  These cameras react quick!  Well at least with the Pro's I purchased, I could have received a good batch, only time will tell with others.

The great thing that I found with these cameras, is that I have yet to get a false trigger with motion and that's at 100% sensitivity, which I keep them at that all the time.  No false triggers from large passing trucks from the street, no reflection trigger from a car passing in the evening, so far it has been great!

When I turned on Sound triggers, was when I started getting false triggers.  It was windy and the howling of the wind set off my Pro, which I just created a new Mode, left sensitivity to 100% but dropped down Sound a bit.  But let me tell you, I love having both on, so when someone is talking loud or like a noise comes out from the norm, the camera jumps into action!  So with no motion false triggers, and having a few, even less than my original Arlo when Sound is also on, I truly can live with that!  Especially if I have caught the subject.

These cameras can pick up a conversation easily at 20' away.  It's pretty amazing!

Here's a clip of my dog coming in at a decent pace, which my old Arlo would catch her already at the gate.

Hula,

Here's another clip for you showing where the trigger was sound.  My daughter and her boyfriend coming up to the house from the street.

Also I bought my Pro's from Best Buy, they give you 15 days.  If I find that this won't work out, I'm going to return them.

I kept the packaging in pristine shape. . .just in case. 🙂

@RobertRosal

Now that is pretty impressive.  in the second clip of your daughter coming into frame, she is walking towards the camera, Noise triggers the record, does the camera have the same behavior if no one is talking, relying only on the motion to the trigger recording?

I aprreciate your input !

You know what I don't have a clip like that with motion, I'll create one for you.  Leaving for business tomorrow morning but will be back on Tuesday early enough to do that test.

The closest I have so far, is with  me captured leaving the back yard.  The outer limits I think the Pro will capture, not sure until I can do further testing.

That is still pretty good.....  with the old camera, you would have been completely out of view by the time the camera woke up.

Thanks for the tests, Im still teeter-tottering on buying one.....

I made a side-by-side comparison of the legacy vs. pro Arlos showing how much better the motion capture is with the Pro.

It's night and day!  It was posted on a separate link here:

Hula,

I did a quick test before I had to leave.  Tuesday I'll move the car and do further testing but here's a quick test for you.
