Backup Mac to ReadyNas
Hello everyone, I'm about to boot my ReadyNAS Duo through a window.
All I'm trying to do is backup a single, paltry folder from my Mac's desktop to a destination on my ReadyNAS.
The folder on my Mac's desktop is a single word with no spaces, is shared using SMB, has read-write privileges for everyone, and doesn't have a username or password.
When I access it from another (Windows) computer on the network using the Mac's IP address, everything goes smoothly. I can see the files in the folder, open them, edit them and save them.
My ReadyNAS resolutely refuses to locate my Mac via its IP address or computer name. I've tried using Remote: Windows (Archive Bit) and Remote Windows/NAS (Timestamp) and both fail with an "Error connecting to..." if I use the Test Connection button, or an "Unable to access remote path..." failure if I simply try to run the backup job.
I'm at my wits' end and Netgear's documentation on what I expect is a very common requirement leaves absolutely loads to be desired.
Time Machine is inappropriate for this job as I only want to backup a single folder, and I don't want to use a backup application on my Mac.
Jesus wept. Many thanks to anyone who can help out with this.

- tjuanmaGuideWe will never have good answers by Netgear support? i'm so tired about them...
- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredWell Apple did their own SMB implementation. Don't think there is anything we can do about problems with how Apple does SMB on our Sparc and ARM systems.

Great Excuse.
In backup options you have implemented yet SMB (2 ways), NFS...but not AFP...why not?
By the way, I have installed SMBUp on my Mac that allows me to share everything I want by SMB...byapassing "modificated SMB" by Apple.
All my other devices that uses SMB to connect to my Mac works fine afer install SMBUp....why RN 104 not? Its already an Apple fault?
Good try. - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee Retiredtjuanna could you open a support case about this and attach your logs zip file to your case and let me know your case number?

I just accept to spend my time if you promise me that you will spend your time trying to realy solve this problem and implement a solution in future updates. Beacuse right now, its impssible to backup a folder from Mac to Nas by the Backup configuration. - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredWell I'm not sure anything can be done. We are doing all we can from our end. We have an up to date samba client in our firmware and it works fine connecting to Windows machines, all of which indicates that the problem is at Apple's end.
