Best Practice for Setting up 2.4 & 5.0 ghz networks (WNDAP360)
I would like to set up my WNDAP360's to have the same SSID throughout our building. I was planning on using the WMS105 to manage them (only have 2 to start with), but unfortunately, it does not work with the 360 😞
My question is about how to set up the SSID. Do I need to set them up different for the 2 frequencies, or can I set it up as MYBUILDING for both 2.4 and 5.0 ghz?
What is "best practice" here?
Thanks,
Bryan

Use different SSID for each bands.
Makes difficult use correctly to identify

Ok, I get it. So the wireless card will not automatically pick the 5.0ghz band if the SSID is the same?

Re: Best Practice for Setting up 2.4 & 5.0 ghz networks (WNDAP360)
makes not difference.
5Ghz has less range over 2.4ghz unless you have saturated issues that needs to deal with.
person has to put TWICE on both SSID anyway for dual band wifi adapter

I didn't think about this until later, but I was hoping for one SSID throughout the whole building. So basically, you can't/shouldn't do this with dual band?

Re: Best Practice for Setting up 2.4 & 5.0 ghz networks (WNDAP360)
that is bad practice.
ex "mybuidling_24" for 2.4Ghz "mybuilding_5 for 5Ghz"
also 5ghz is less range over 2.4ghz so if you loose 2.4ghz then likely will not going use 5Ghz unless you have saturated 2.4ghz other than yours causing channel interfernces.

Re: Best Practice for Setting up 2.4 & 5.0 ghz networks (WNDAP360)
You can configure same SSID on both bands if you need that way, but I would recommended you to use separate SSID for both bands so you can choose which one to connect. Also you can priorities 5GHz over 2.4GHz by adding both to your Wi-Fi connections, and saying that one is better than the other.
However if you planning to use same SSID for both bands, client will select the one which is available first. And you can use inSSIDer to see which band you are connected to as well as it will chow you which channels you are connected to.
Let me know if you have any other questions.
Thanks,
