Remote office wireless setup/discovery

Can a WC7600 be used to setup and manage a remote office wireless?  Network details are as follows:

Main Office

Network = 192.168.1.0

DHCP via Windows SBS

WC7600 & WAC720s exist in this location.

Remote Office

Network = 192.168.200.0

No DHCP, all devices are statically assigned.

Would like to add new wireless (or one that is reliable).  Already have a WNDAP660 that could be used.

Sites are connected via PTP connection - Cisco 1921 routers at each end.  No internet at remote office, it is routed via the PTP and out the main office.

Need a way to keep existing DHCP at main office, but have the AP/Controller handle the DHCP at the remote office.

Is this configuration possible and what would be the best configuration practices.

Re: Remote office wireless setup/discovery

Hi Taind,

For 2 issues you may require Information/Solution.

1. Installing WNDAP660 AP as remote AP.

    Yes, you can install this WNDAP660 as remote AP to WC7600 Controller sitting in your main office. Only requirement is to have reachability between the two and vice-versa.

    a. Is WNDAP660 you have , is managed or standalone..?

    b. if its standalone AP, you need to upgrade it to managed image. Managed image can be found in /home directory of controller file system. Please scp  WNDAP660.tar from /home directory of controller to your local PC and upgrade the AP with this image.

    c. Once its upgraded Open the WebUI of managed AP, configure controller IP . In system> network setting> controller setting> "give your controllers IP sitting in main office "

    d. Open Controller UI and do L3 discovery for that AP subnet and add to managed list.

    e.  Now your AP will get the configuration from controller and start serving the clients.

2. Requirement of DHCP IPs for the wireless clients on remote site.

    a. In your case controller is sitting in main office, so running controller dhcpserver does not help. Moreover there is already a Windows DHCP server in main office.

    b. if possible, best way is to run DHCP server on your remote office.

    c. If you dont want to run DHCP server in remote office , you can use DHCP relay feature to forward DHCP requests from remote office to main office dhcp sever. this configuration is specific to router, not in AP/Controller.

some link to configure DHCP relay on cisco switch as you are using one.

Re: Remote office wireless setup/discovery

Hello taind,

Welcome to the community!

Do you have a diagram of the network that you want to accomplish? Correct me if I'm wrong but the way I understand it is you want the WC7600 to manage the AP on the remote office passing a PTP connection?

Thanks,

Re: Remote office wireless setup/discovery

JohnRo,

You are correct.  I want to setup/manage the AP (WNDAP660) in the remote office using the WC7600.  The remote office is all static assignments so can the AP or the WC act as DHCP for the wireless clients in the remote office?  The main office would still need to use the Windows DHCP for its addressing.

Here is a rough network diagram.
