WMS5316 failure to detect ... Mostly

I'll try to give an account of what is going on with my problems.
My network is 10.4.68.*

WMS5316
Firmware 2.1.2
IP is 10.4.68.11

WNAP210
Firmware Version WNAP210_2.0.27
IP is 10.4.68.15

I have a WNAP360 operating on the network as well.

All are discoverable by a network sniffer as well I can log into all devices.

All factory settings except for the IP addresses and both after doing push button factory resets.

99 percent of the time the controller cannot locate the AP. on the rare occasion I can add the AP I can't add any more as I add more to the network.

Once I managed to get the 360 and one 210 under management but once I tried to add another 210 constant failure.

Upgrading the 210 to the next version of firmware didn't help.

Okay - so I just upgraded to the most recent firmware 2.1.4.15 and I can now see all four of my AP's and manage them.

A further point to note:

I opened a case with Netgear Online help - they never responded to my inquiry. How fortunate for me that they posted a new version of firmware that solved my issues and that I had not purchased this a year ago.
