Wifi trunk (before sale question)

Hello,

Is it possible to establish a wifi trunk of this kind (A or B)?

A.
+ AP in client mode receives different SSIDs and tag them on the nic
- Advantage: the AP that "send signal" can send signal to "normal" clients (computers, smartphones, printer...) and the APs in client mode.
- Advantage: no need to have a dedicated wifi bridge infrastructure
- Need: a specific client mode

B.
+ AP in client mode receive one SSID dedicated to trunk and the "sender AP" sends several SSIDs to normal clients and on SSID dedicated to the wifi trunk
- Advantage: the AP that "send signal" can send signal to "normal" clients (computers, smartphones, printer...) and the APs in client mode.
- Advantage: no need to have a dedicated wifi bridge infrastructure
- Need: a specific client mode + a specific "wifi trunk" on "sender" side

Thanks for your ideas/informations/solutions

Hi dabacertia,

Welcome to our community!

It is easier to use the first option that you have. You just need to set the port on trunk where the AP is connected so that it can also broadcast the other VLANs. It will still be depending on the AP you are going to use if it supports VLAN.

Re: Wifi trunk (before sale question)

Hello John,

Thanks for your answer, I will give it a try. I don't know why I thought it needed special feature to transport a trunk through an wireless network/SSID. It is so simple I did not tried it.

Have a nice day

Re: Wifi trunk (before sale question)

dabacertia,

Setting up a Trunk to the AP is only applied if you do have multiple SSIDs. If none, no need to configure trunk on it.
