C7800 Disconnecting - Need Help Please!

Hey everybody! Sorry to be a bother here, but I'm not really tech savvy and tried to read up on this as much as I could but could use some guidance. So I just bought a C7800 a few months back (even after reading some reviews with intermittent dropping of Xfinity and prayed for the best because its a good router!) and set up my Xfinity internet 800mbps about a month ago. Over the past few weeks, my wife and I, who only each have a laptop, an Iphone, a PS5, and the Xfinity flex box which we use for Hulu + live tv and notice intermittent dropping for about 30 seconds but multiple times a day, and just lots of buffering on everything. Everything is connected wirelessly with nothing close enough to be wired and its about 1500 sq ft so not enough for the internet to be unstable really. I've went on the router after reading many forums about this and this is what I've found. Sorry in advance for the lengthy read but I would really appreciate any guidance or insight at all, and please imagine I know nothing and walk me through baby steps what you advise 🙂 thanks again everyone!
1) I was a reading a forum from Fury I believe who recommended to change channels for the 2.4 and the 5 ghz connection, and I manually changed the channels to a network that's less busy (I set up two different ones and have no guest network in place at all)

2) I read something about the downstream/upstream but that seems to be alright here from my limited knowledge? Downstream in photo attached
<tabindex=-1>Upstream Bonded Channels</tabindex=-1>
Channel Lock Status Modulation Channel ID Frequency Power
1 Locked ATDMA 1 16400000 Hz 47.3 dBmV
2 Locked ATDMA 2 22800000 Hz 47.8 dBmV
3 Locked ATDMA 3 29200000 Hz 48.0 dBmV
4 Locked ATDMA 4 35600000 Hz 50.3 dBmV
3) I've read a lot about the DOS attacks on Xfinity, I guess they're called, but never really found a solution. This is what I'm seeing on my log just over the past few days

C7800 Dropping Xfinity For 30 Seconds Several Times a Day

ChannelLock StatusModulationChannel IDFrequencyPower

3LockedATDMA329200000 Hz48.0 dBmV
4LockedATDMA435600000 Hz50.3 dBmV

3) I've read a lot about the DOS attacks on Xfinity, I guess they're called, but never really found a solution. This is what I'm seeing on my log just over the past few days

Re: C7800 Dropping Xfinity For 30 Seconds Several Times a Day

Hey everybody! Sorry to be a bother here, but I'm not really tech savvy and tried to read up on this as much as I could but could use some guidance. So I just bought a C7800 a few months back (even after reading some reviews with intermittent dropping of Xfinity and prayed for the best because its a good router!) and set up my Xfinity internet 800mbps about a month ago.

While many questions about routers are generic and could be answered anywhere, some things need specialist knowledge.

You might get more help, and find earlier questions and answers specific to your device, in the appropriate section for your hardware. That's probably here:

Cable Modems & Routers

You might like to search there for messages related to your problem.

I will ask the Netgear moderator to move your message.

In the meantime you could visit the support pages:

Support | NETGEAR

Feed in your model number and check the documentation for your hardware. Look at the label on the device for the model number.

Check for various troubleshooting tips.

You may have done this already. I can't tell from your message.

I mention it because Netgear stopped supplying printed manuals and CD versions some years ago and people sometimes miss the downloads.

On the DoS Attacks, Netgear's firmware is great at creating false reports of DoS attacks. Many of them are no such thing.

Search - NETGEAR Communities – DoS attacks

Use Whois.net to see who is behind some of them and you may find that they are from places like Facebook, Google, even your ISP.

Here is a useful tool for that task:

IPNetInfo: Retrieve IP Address Information from WHOIS servers

If these events are slowing down your router, that may be because it is using up processor time as it writes the events to your logs. Anything that uses processor power – event logging, QoS management, traffic metering – may cause slowdowns. Disable logging of DoS attacks and see if that reduces the problem. This does not prevent the router from protecting you from the outside world.

Re: C7800 Dropping Xfinity For 30 Seconds Several Times a Day

The event logs help more than just checking the logs.

But you do have errors in your line from just the connections page.

Start with removing any amplifiers, signal attenuators, or splitters from the coax.
From there check the line for kinks, damage, moisture in the line.
Check the connectors for improperly made ends, foil touching the copper coax line, loose connections, bad/old/cheap connectors, or corroded connections. Replace them if you do.
If you can, simply connect the modem right where the coax comes into the home. This prevents wiring in the home from being the issue. And some ISP’s charge if the wiring issue is in the home. So this helps prevent this.

Hey Michael! Thanks for the response! Just for clarity here - you recommend posting my original message for help on a specialist page right? Could you provide the link for that so I can re-post this in the correct spot?

And you had mentioned to disable the DOS logs. Sorry for the stupidity, but how do I do this? Thanks again for your help!

Re: C7800 Dropping Xfinity For 30 Seconds Several Times a Day

Hey Plemans! Thanks for your help! So just for reference, I don't really know what amplifiers or signal attenuators are but I just used the original coax cable that Xfinity provided to plug one end into the wall, and one end into the C7800 which is only about a 2 ft cable. Do you recommend trying a different cable? This one is brand new from them but happy to try! Is there an issue you see that can be corrected by the ISP or something that I can request from Xfinity, whether they charge or not, based on the logs? I also attached the event logs for you that you asked for! Thanks again everyone!

Between your cable connections page and event logs, you have issues with the line.

you can always try different cables but do check for splitters prior to the modem. they're where I always start with cable connection issues.

Re: C7800 Dropping Xfinity For 30 Seconds Several Times a Day

Hey Plemans, thanks for your help! I don't really have any splitters or anything coming out of the wall, other than the coax cable connected from the wall and into the router right next to it. Where would I find a splitter, or look for one?

I think I might have issues with my line but don't know how to fix this. Is this something that would be inside or outside the home, and would this be something Xfinity can send a tech to look into? Thanks again for your help!

Re: C7800 Dropping Xfinity For 30 Seconds Several Times a Day

usually the cable comes into your home and runs to a central utility room where a splitter is that then distributes it to the rest of the home. You can check to see where its coming in the home and where that runs to. If its directly connected to where it comes in, then the ISP needs to check it
