CAX80 + EAX80 or CBK752
I currently have an C7800-100NAS with Xfinity 1.2 Gbps. I have an 1800 sf townhouse with small horizontal dimensions, but 5 floors (counting basement and roof deck). I've put up with poor reception for years but now want something better. I like the Orbi CBR750 with one satellite (ie. CBK752), but also like the 2.5 Gbps and USB ports on the CAX80. Would I be better off adding an EAX80 to the CAX80, or just getting the Orbi? I don't want to be kicking myself in a year or two.

Re: CAX80 + EAX80 or CBK752
What is the town home made of?
1800sqft isn't that large of a structure and most routers should cover it.
And the C7800 is a pretty darned good modem/router. it was best of the combo's until the CAX line.
Reason I ask what your townhome is made of is if its made from materials like brick/concrete/metal, it might not be an issue of switching to a mesh system or adding an extender. You might need something hardwired in for a backhaul. That'd change the recommendations.
the other thing I'd consider, is the C7800 has a modem only mode and it basically has a docsis 3.1 modem in it. Fairly solid. might be worth investigating a seperate router from the modem that way it does make upgrades easier/cheaper in the future.

Re: CAX80 + EAX80 or CBK752
Plemans, thanks for the reply. My townhouse is wood and drywall on the inside, brick on the outside. I only use WiFi inside so I don't think the brick is an issue. The ethernet portion of my C7800 has worked well since 2017, but for the past few months both ethernet and Wi-Fi have been randomly disconnecting for no apparent reason. When this happens, I lose the connection between two of my computers connected by ethernet, so I don't think the connection to Xfinity has anything to do with it. I'm all set to try a new device. I just can't decide which.

How often are you loosing connection?
If its fairly frequently, you could try the c7800 in modem only mode to see if the modem side is good.
Do you have a screen snip of the cable connecitons page and the event logs?

Re: CAX80 + EAX80 or CBK752
Plemans, thank you for your help. I sent the screen captures you requested in a private message. I would say the lost connection happens every few days. I would love to isolate the modem portion of my C7800 and just test that, but I don't have another router.
