CM1000 Upstream Light Keeps Turning Amber
Hello all,
I've been trying for weeks to resolve an issue with a Netgear ADT Hub. ADT has been out several times to no avail. I've tried everything but can't seem to locate the problem. The only network component I haven't changed out is my Netgear CM1000 modem. I have noticed that there are periods of time when the upstream light is solid amber. Most of the time it is green, but I am wondering if this issue may be contributory.
A quick glance at the manual suggests this indicates that only ONE upstream channel locked but indicates this is WNL. Could this be contibuting to my ADT Hub problem? If so, can anyone suggest a possible solution?
Thanks!

Re: CM1000 Upstream Light Keeps Turning Amber
Please post a copy and paste of the modems connection status page.
Have the ISP check the signal and line quality UP to the modem. Be sure the ISP provisions the modem correctly.
Be sure there are no coax cable line splitters in the between the modem and ISP service box.
Be sure your using good quality RG6 coax cable up to the modem.
Be sure to power OFF the modem for 1 minute then back ON.

Re: CM1000 Upstream Light Keeps Turning Amber
@FURRYe38 - Thanks for the info. All measures have been taken.
Please post a copy and paste of the modems connection status page. <- done, upstream status light is green at the moment.
Have the ISP check the signal and line quality UP to the modem. Be sure the ISP provisions the modem correctly. <- check
Be sure there are no coax cable line splitters in the between the modem and ISP service box. <- check
Be sure your using good quality RG6 coax cable up to the modem. <- check, including drop line.
Be sure to power OFF the modem for 1 minute then back ON. <- done for 3" at a time (more than once during troubleshooting).
Could you explain the potential issues associated with only locking one upstrem channel?

Re: CM1000 Upstream Light Keeps Turning Amber
Interesting.
Firmware lised for my CM1000-1AZNAS for my ISP: V3.01.04
My firmware: V6.01.07
Does the ISP push these down? If not, how else could I have gotten there if I didn't do it myself?
Thanks!

Re: CM1000 Upstream Light Keeps Turning Amber
Are you using an amplifier on the coax line? Or a signal attenuator?
Based off the power of your downstream channels, your upstream is rather high. (high enough to cause issues)
Reason I ask is, when you're close to a hub, your downstream will be higher and the upstream tends to run lower.
If you're further away, you have lower downstream and higher upstream. Your numbers downstream indicate you're close to a hub but your upstream indicates your further away. so somethings a bit funky there.
Got a copy of the event logs?

Re: CM1000 Upstream Light Keeps Turning Amber
@plemans Great call. I do have an amplifier in the system, but since I cancelled cable a couple of years ago, I am wondering about its necessity. I will have to address that as soon as I am able.
I am learning (I think) much from your and Furry's posts. I intend to explore such things more when I have a bit longer window to address.
In short - I have the ADT hub up and running again. After hours spent re-routing, by-passing and exchanging out components, it is working again with the original hardware configuration. I am not certain that this was the fix, but Furry's reminder of the basics did cause me to think about the coax cables again and whether they were all firmly connected. I worked from the cable modem backwards re-tightening all connections. Thereafter, the upstream channel locks inceased and the recertification if the ADT hub went through. KISS principle strikes again (I believe).
To be sure there is more in the system to tweak. I'll provide more information in the log to address the power discrepancies later on and get back to you both. Thank you very much for you help to date.

Re: CM1000 Upstream Light Keeps Turning Amber
If you do get issues, pull that amplifiers out and get a snip of your power levels.
Running 58dbmv on the upstream will cause issues.
If your downstream falls into a decent level, you probably don't need the amplifiers.
If you're needing it for tv, you could use a splitter with one leg going to the modem and the other running to the amp.

Re: CM1000 Upstream Light Keeps Turning Amber
This is too high of US power.
Normal D3.0 US spec is 51dBmV
Extended US power can do anywhere from 54dBmV to 56dBmV sometimes.
58dB and that too with 5 US is really pushing it too far.
Need to be reduced to mid-high 40s ideally.

Re: CM1000 Upstream Light Keeps Turning Amber
OK. Will explore solution in near future. In the meantime, can anyone elucidate the problem hiw US power causes (i.e. what are the symptoms)?

Re: CM1000 Upstream Light Keeps Turning Amber
you will suddenly loose US bonding (and thats why you see Amber US light since it is working in single US channel mode)
AND/OR you will partial US service
AND/OR you see lot of T3/T4 as well when modem cannot push even more power.
