Internet disconnected when replacing w new Spectrum Modem model ET2251 to the system w Netgear C3000

My current set up is cable (white) from wall to a cable splitter: 1 cable (white) to new Modem Spectrum ET2251 and other cable (white) to Router Netgear C3000. Landline phone cable (gray) from wall connects to new Modem. An Ethernet cable (yellow) connects new Modem to Router, and another Ethernet cable connects Modem to a HP desktop computer. Modem is activated and has Internet and Voice; existing WiFi in Router is on; but there is no internet connection to either the desktop PC and WiFi network. My old set up was working fine before I changed the Modem. Please help to make the internet connection work. Thanks.

Glad you got it working well.

You might mark it solved so others aren't trying to continue to fix it.

Hope the new router works well.

The C3000 is a cable modem/router. Google isn't conclusive, but it looks like the Spectrum ET2251 is a simple modem only device with support for voice devices.

It is hard to follow your description of where the cables run – a picture is worth a thousand words – but you can't run two modems off one cable input.

Unfortunately, cable modems do not have a router only mode. No WAN port on the back.

If you want to use the Spectrum modem, and need more than one LAN connection, you might find it easier to replace the C3000 with a router only box.

While many questions about routers are generic and could be answered anywhere, some things need specialist knowledge.

You might get more help, and find earlier questions and answers specific to your device, in the appropriate section for your hardware. That's probably here:

Cable Modems & Routers

You could also visit the support pages:

Support | NETGEAR

Feed in your model number and check the documentation for your hardware. Look at the label on the device for the model number.

Check for various troubleshooting tips.

You may have done this already. I can't tell from your message.

I mention it because Netgear stopped supplying printed manuals and CD versions some years ago and people sometimes miss the downloads.

Cable companies will only provision 1 modem to your account. So you either need to use the ET2251 and buy your own router device or just use the C3000. Problem is the C3000 doesn't have voice. So if you're needing voice, you'll have to keep the spectrum modem and get your own router.

Thanks for the information. I need to buy a new wi-fi router. My internet service plan with (measured) download: 300 Mbps+ and upload: 11 Mbps. Do you have any recommendation for a good, economical Netgear wi-fi router serving a 1500 s.f. single story home?

With so many routers available it is hard to say which is best for a particular user.

Try plugging your needs into the filters on the product pages:

Wireless Routers for Home | NETGEAR

and

Orbi: Whole Home WiFi System for Better WiFi Everywhere | NETGEAR

Then check back here for reports on the things you are considering, but remember that people turn up in this community with problems, not compliments. So look at reviews on Amazon, for example.

while I'm a fan of using @michaelkenward suggestion for filter by your needs, I'd also check amazon. There's been a bunch of "renewed" routers on there for much cheaper. so you can get better performance/specs for a lower price. Even adding in an aftermarket warranty and you come up quite a bit cheaper. I've had friends/family take that route.

Thanks for the info. I checked with Best Buy tech and Spectrum and bought a Netgear AX1800 router. It works well. My old modem/router do not work with the new internet service plan. Thanks for everyone's help.

That's good.

If you need to come back for more help, note that AX1800 isn't a Netgear model number. AX1800 is not a reliable guide to model number. Many devices come with an AX tag, but it is essentially a label that Netgear, and other brands, attach to hardware to describe wifi speeds.

Look at the label on the device for the model number.

In this case, it is probably one of Netgear's WiFi 6 devices.Depending in which one you bought,  user to user self support probably happens in one of these places:

Nighthawk Routers with WiFi 6 (AX) - NETGEAR Communities

Orbi WiFi 6 (AX) and WiFi 6E (AXE) - NETGEAR Communities

With luck, though, you won't need help.
