Netgear Nighthawk CM 2050V Cable Modem

I have a Nighthawk CM 2050V cable Modem and my ISP is Xfinity/Comcast. This unit was purchased in Dec 2021 and therefore out of warranty. I am running Window 11 Home 23H.

The issue that I am experiencing is with my download/upload speeds. I am paying for 800 down/ 20-25 upload and currently, I am seeing 450-475 down and 11-12 upload. Xfinity claims that the reason for this discrepancy is due to the modem operating intermittently therefore unable to operate at the paid level. And their suggestion-naturally, is that I go with their modem. Up until 6 weeks ago this modem was running speeds consistently 800--850 down and 22-26 upload. 

I have entered the Modem gateway and there is no indication of a problem- it does indicate the cable is good and i see the latest Comcast firmware update. The status lights on the Cable Modem are indicating as they should per the user manual.

 

Can anyone offer detail that I need to look at within the gateway settings that might offer a glimpse as to why I am not seeing the speeds that I once operated at? Thank you for reading this. I need to address this issue with Xfinity again, but I know that I need info to back up my claim.😁😁

Hi Furrye38, thank you for replying. You have helped me out in the past and I appreciate that. Cable firmware version is V2.01.03. Hardware version is 1.01. I am working on getting to you the other info...connection status and event log. I am having some issue with copy/paste as a reply format.

Whats the Correctables and Un-correctables columns look like? Should be zeros.

Under-Downstream Bonded Channels

  • Line 31-Correctables is 5102;uncorrectables 3893.
  • Line 32-Correctable is 259;uncorrectable 178.
  • otherwise all other lines are ZERO.

Is the downstream bonded Channels the only one you need?

Yes. 

If there are correctables and un-correctables seen and not zero, try some of the following:

Be sure there are no coax cable line splitters in the between the modem and ISP service box. 
Be sure your using good quality RG6 coax cable up to the modem. 
Start with removing any amplifiers, signal attenuators, or splitters from the coax.
From there check the line for kinks, damage, moisture in the line.
Check the connectors for improperly made ends, foil touching the copper coax line, loose connections, bad/old/cheap connectors, or corroded connections. Replace them if you do.
Be sure to power OFF the modem for 1 minute then back ON.

Again, Any Criticals, Errors or Warnings seen in the event logs needs to be reviewed and resolved by the ISP. Indicates a signal issue on the ISP line up to the modem. Have the ISP check the signal and line quality UP to the modem. Be sure the ISP provisions the modem correctly.

I can't thank you enough for taking the time forward your previous info. I really appreciated, I am going to send three photos of adapters that are located in ISP box and another COMMSCOPE AC Adapter that is installed inline inside the home from one of the lines leading out from the ISP box. If you see anything out of place please advise. But thanks again and I will follow-up with my ISP.
