OK, I'm a bit of a novice here.  Just purchaesd the Nighthawk AC3200 to replace my BT Smart Hub 6 which is poor to say the least.  I find out now that my phone line will not plug in and I need a seperate modem.  What do you recomend?

"poor" in what sense?  Why replace it?  If it can be configured in a
modem-only mode, then you ought to be able to use the R8000 as your
router with it.

If you insist on buying a modem, then Netgear DSL modems have "DM"
model numbers, "DM200", for example.  Non-Netgear DSL modems may also
exist.

Not a very useful suggestion for a user with DSL service.  (Perhaps
even more useless than your usual "My Setup" noise.)
