Got the Nighthawk r6700v2 in July 2020 was working fine. Saw there was an update (1.2.0.74) available throught the Nighthawk app so downloaded and set it to install. Afterwards it just stopped working (solid amber power). Tried factory reset, wasn't successful. Tried tftp method following every step also unsuccessful. I get to the point where you have to turn the router off for 10 seconds then back on and it's supposed to start flashing but it just comes back on solid amber.

There's many steps in tftp that can have things go wrong. And it sometimes takes a couple tries.
are you on windows? if so, follow this guide
https://kb.netgear.com/000059634/How-to-upload-firmware-to-a-NETGEAR-router-using-Windows-TFTP
just make sure you enable tftp
https://www.thewindowsclub.com/enable-tftp-windows-10
and here's a video walk through. This can be key to helping.

and if that doesn't work, you can try using nmrpflash
