Remote Management Not Working C3000-100NAS

I'm in the process of hard wiring my internet and would like to be able to remotely manage my network when away from home. I have gone to the advanced settings and selected to Turn Remote Management On for https (I've also tried http with no luck). I have it selected to allow everyone and have played around with different port numbers with no luck. I have tried accessing the network on a different device not connected to my network and it always says it can't load the page. Any help would be appreciated! (p.s. I am not at all tech savvy so I am sorry if I forgot pertinent info).

Other info, firmware version is V2.02.21

I've tried connecting to it on the genie app but I can't get that to work - I login and click remote management and click to turn it on and it says "this router does not support remote access"

Did you follow all the complicated stuff in the manual? There's more to it than reading the screens in the browser graphical user interface (GUI). This isn't the easiest of things to set up.

Thanks to growing awareness of security issues, the process has also changed quite a lot in the eight years since your modem/router first came out.

Do you have any security software that might be getting in the way. For example:

Unable to access router management page with Kaspersky installed | Answer | NETGEAR Support

You refer to the genie. This could be one of several things, the browser interface, a Windows or Mac program for a PC, or a mobile Android/iThing app. Netgear labels them all as genies. Which are you using?

You are using the C3000 cable modem/router. While many questions about routers are generic and could be answered anywhere, some things need specialist knowledge.

You might get more help, and find earlier questions and answers specific to your device, in the appropriate section for your hardware. That's probably here:

Cable Modems & Routers

(p.s. I am not at all tech savvy so I am sorry if I forgot pertinent info).

This one can baffle even the savviest of users.

Re: Remote Management Not Working C3000-100NAS

Thanks for your reply, @michaelkenward . I appreciate it.

As for the genie question, I am using the genie app on my iPhone. It doesn't seem to even be connected at all to my router even though I am signed into my account and have registered it (ive tried it via local connection and then through the remote option as well).

It seemed so simple in the manual, like I should be able to just click it off and on, but clearly is a lot more complex. I didn't see anything about troubleshooting in the manual, just the basic instructions. Do you think this is something tech support would be able to assist with if I get a subscription? Or maybe its easier to just buy a new router modem with a simpler process.

You can see how much Netgear supports the genie mobile app when you learn that it dumped it in favour of the Nighthawk app some time ago.

For the Nighthawk app to work Netgear had to apply firmware updates. These aren't available for cable modems. ISPs won't allow Netgear, or users, anywhere near the firmware. And they are reluctant to do it themselves. Maybe they want you all to buy or rent modems from them.

Given the age of your modem/router, and that it predates the Nighthawk app, a new modem might be cheaper than spending money on support.

You could also hang around here and see if anyone who knows about  your device can chip in.

You might also want to explain just what you want to achieve with remote access. Is it something you plan to use regularly? Do you have a particular purpose in mid?

If you do go down the road of buying a new modem. many experienced users like to keep modem and router separate, They buy a modem and then buy a router., which gives them many more options. They can also keep the router bit if they change ISP or sign up for a different type of Internet service.

You could even see if you can get the C3000 to work in modem only (bridge) mode in front of a router that will work with remote access.

Look in the manual for Change the Router Mode.
