Slow speed with nighthawk cm1100 and N300

I am connecting nighhawk cm1100 cable modem with N300 router. I am getting speed of 65Mbps whereas with Xfi Gateway it was 220 Mbps. I understand N300 is old device . However, N300 supports upto 200Mbps and I was expecting close to it. Any pointer what is going wrong>

"N300" is a speed, not a model number.  Look for "Model" on the
product label.

   Not well enough, apparently.

   "200Mbps" doing what?  Says who?

Visit http://netgear.com/support , put in your (actual) model number,
and look for Documentation.  Get the Product Data Sheet.  Read.  Pay
particular attention to the disclaimers.

You seem to be expecting some (unspecified) old, lame device to
perform as well as a new, less lame device.

That equipment list makes little sense.  I don't know of a good way
to use a CM1100 with a C3000.  What's the actual model number of your
(unspecified) "N300 router"?

Re: Slow speed with nighthawk cm1100 and N300

My router is WNR2000 v3 and I have paired it with nighthawk cm1100 cable modem. The internet speed (download) I am getting is around 60Mbps. Whereas if I use xfi gateway( xfinity rental modem router), I get around 230 Mbps( download).

The max download speed supported by WNR2000v3 is 200Mbps and so I am expecting atleast download speed of 150Mbps.

Ok.  That (decade-old) model predates the standard "Product Data
Sheet", and its "Setup Manual" is weak on details, but its Ethernet
ports seem to be 10/100Mb/s.

"getting" _how_?  When you do what?  Is that with a wired or wireless
connection?  To what device?  Measured how?

> The max download speed supported by WNR2000v3 is 200Mbps [...]

You keep asserting that, and I keep wondering where you got that
number.  With its 100Mb/s Ethernet ports, I see no way to get more than
100Mb/s through that device.  And, with its 2.4GHz-only wireless
capability, I doubt that you could do as well as 100Mb/s with a wireless
connection.  As the disclaimer says:

      a. Maximum Wireless signal rate derived from IEEE Standard 802.11
specifications. Actual throughput will vary. Network conditions
and environmental factors, including volume of network traffic,
building materials and construction, and network overhead
         lower actual data throughput rate.

> [...] so I am expecting atleast download speed of 150Mbps.

   Prepare for disappointment.

The xFI, I'd guess, offers gigabit Ethernet and 5GHz wireless, with
correspondingly better performance on both paths.

And that's just the raw I/O bottleneck of the WNR2000v3; the
capability of its old CPU might degrade its performance even more.  If
you want an Internet connection which is faster than 100Mb/s (even for a
wired connection), then you'll need a different router.

You're not entirely alone.  See, for example:

Your old N300 doesn't have the capabilities that it was tuned for for higher speeds of todays ISP services. Find you something new.

I get to spec speeds with NGs R7800, R7960P, XR450, Orbi RBK50 and 850 series router systems connected to my CM1100. These are well capable of near 900Mbps on the wire. 400-500Mpbs wirelessly dependping upon wifi client HW support.
