Unable to access few websites from NETGEAR Cable Gateways
Hi Team,
We have facing an issue with NETGEAR Cable Gateways (C3000/C3700)
We tried to block facebook using block sites featurein GUI but no effect. When contacted NETGEAR Support they told that can't block https websites Why is it so? Is it an known issue with the NETGEAR devices?
Note: LPC feature is not working with C3000/C3700 that is why we tried with this blocksite feature. Is there any ETA for LPC feature on C3000/C3700?
Thanks,
NetRags

Re: Unable to access few websites from NETGEAR Cable Gateways
Netgear's block sites feature works by examining the URL in a http request. But https is encrypted, so the URL cannot be examined.
You can always try using OpenDNS's parental controls directly. You just need to configure the Netgear to use their DNS servers. You can find more information about how to set it up and customize the filtering at opendns.com.

Re: Unable to access few websites from NETGEAR Cable Gateways
Hi,
Does LPC works with C3000/C3700? As far as I heard that customer has to wait for the next firmware update for these products.
As you said "You can always try using OpenDNS's parental controls directly" can you please explain me little more in detail?
Thanks & Regards,
Rags

Re: Unable to access few websites from NETGEAR Cable Gateways
LPC support is mentioned in the C3700 manual on page 24, so it should be supported. I guess a Netgear moderator will need to provide an official statement.
The following webpages are helpful for setting up OpenDNS:
Netgear Router Configuration (Good visual instructions for setting up a Netgear router to use OpenDNS)
FamilyShield Router Configuration (This is a "set up and forget" option)
OpenDNS Support Homepage (There are lots of helpful links here)

Re: Unable to access few websites from NETGEAR Cable Gateways
Hi,
Yes, It is mentionedin the User Manual as well as on the Box itself. But I am not able to complete the setup. When I contacted Tech Support they had mentioned with the current firmware it won't work. They are saying this for more than a year. We need to wait for the next firmware update from ISP.
Thanks,

Re: Unable to access few websites from NETGEAR Cable Gateways & unable to setup LPC
Comcast ISP is good.
what FW are you on? Are you on Version V2.0x.06 FW? Please let us know.
Also, can you please lis the procedure you are using to setup LPC..
the latest FW on the comcast should support LPC.
