can't hold an internet connection
So out of the blue I lose internet connection today. Restarted the modem multiple times, even plugged directly into the wall and every time I get a steady green power light, download light, then upload light and then a blinking internet light and then the download and upload light and internet light go off and the dance starts again. Eventually they all stop blinking, I plug in wifi router, I have internet for 5 minutes and poof, its gone. And I do this over and over sporadically for 7 hours hoping its the ISP. The modem is doing it again where it will blink the internet light and then the dance again. Is this thing junk? I am using my phone as a hot spot which sucks. My wife and I run a small business from home, so this is crippling us and it would be cost effective to toss it, if it is the modem's fault. My modem is 5 year old. I bought it to escape the garbage rental modem from the local ISP.

Your cable modem was first released in 2016, the design is several years old. From a technology standpoint, it is one generation old, DOCSIS 3.0 versus current DOCSIS 3.1. Even if you replace the modem, you could still have problems with the signal level from your ISP. Old or bad coax cable, connectors, splitters, etc.
Replacing the modem is not a bad idea. But don't stop there, have your ISP check the signal levels up to the back of the modem.
What is the brand name and model number of the router you have connected downstream of your modem?
