AC1900 D7000v2 - AP Wifi issue

Hello,

I have run into a problem I need some help to solve.

I have recently switched to NBN with TPG. They sent a NBN connection device and a modem.

I own a Nighthawk AC1900 and I do not want to use the modem they provided so, as soon as it is all set, I decide to plug in my Nighthawk.

 

I soon figure out it needs to be set up but I notice a problem: both 2.4gHz and 5gHz wifi are not there anymore, lights are off on the modem as well as no signs of them in the possible connections.

 

I thought it might be due to the modem not being set up properly so, after more than a few tries, I manage to get the modem up and running by connecting it to my desktop through a ethernet cable.

 

Still the wifi is nowhere to be seen, I try to check if there is something I can do to switch it on but soon after I start checking the different options and ticks, I happen to turn on the AP mode, the mf reboots, AP mode goes active and now I have no idea how to access my settings as I have no idea how to access the admin page anymore.

 

Tried connecting the other modem making my nighthawk work as an AP, still no luck as wifi is still off. Cable won't help and I am now clueless on how to get back in control of my router.

 

Any help or advice?

   For the non-psychics in your audience, who can see neither of those
devices, data like actual maker and model number might be more helpful
than those non-descriptions.

   Is that (unspecified) "the modem they provided" some kind of DSL
modem(+router), or what?

   What, exactly, does "in the possible connections" mean to you?
_Which_ "lights are off on the modem"?  (What is this "the modem"?  A
D7000v2 ia a modem+router.)


   Visit http://netgear.com/support , put in your model number, and look
for Documentation.  Get the User Manual.  Read.  Look for the LED
descriptions and "Troubleshoot".  Pay particular attention to the "WiFi
On/Off button with WiFi LED".  Did you press it?  (Further reading might
be helpful, too.)

   After the wireless-access-point mode change, the router-as-WAP will
not use one of its typical default IP addresses (like, say,
"192.168.0.1" or "192.168.1.1" or "10.0.0.1"); it will (normally) get a
new (LAN) IP address from the (DHCP server on the) main router.  If you
connect to that main router, then some kind of "Attached Devices" (or
"DHCP Clients") report should show the router-as-WAP at its new address,
and specifying that new address in a web browser URL window should get
you to the management web site of the router-as-WAP.

   "Cable"?  "won't help" is not a useful problem description.  It does
not say what you did.  It does not say what happened when you did it.
As usual, showing actual actions (commands) with their actual results
(error messages, LED indicators, ...) can be more helpful than vague
descriptions or interpretations.

 

   If nothing else works, then look for "Reset" in the User Manual.

I apologize for the fewer info provided in the post above. I assumed that make and model of the equipments TPG had provided were irrelevant as the problem is on the AC1900 plus was quite late and I was probably tired too 😅

Anyway, I managed to fix the problem:
As you also mentioned, I connected the AC1900 to the TPG modem exactly how it's meant to be when you want to use it as an AP, entered the admin page of the TP-link modem from TPG, found the IP given to the AP modem on the "connected devices" page.

This way I managed to access the admin page of the AC1900 and switch off the AP mode. As for the wifi signal I managed to switch it back on by pressing one of the two buttons on the modem itself. I had no idea there were buttons where all the LEDs are

   Netgear can be sneaky, but clues are available.
