C6300 Router not working
We have a C6300 cable/wireless router that has been connected, but not used for 1 1/2 years. Today it cannot be recognized on the network.
Hand helds cannot see it, and if we plug into it the computer cannot see it. None of the lights on the front of it are lit, but the power source is nominal. When turning the power on and off with the button on the back the power light in front flashes red and then goes out. Power cycling, or factory resetting, does not resolve the problem. I haven't performed a firmware update yet, which is next, but has anyone seen this type of behavior in this product?

There's a forum for those:

That's a bad sign. Visit http://netgear.com/support , put in your
model number, and look for Documentation. Get the User Manual. Look
for the LED descriptions and "Troubleshoot".

Says who? Determined how? Connecting a voltmeter (only) to a power
adapter is not a rigorous test; you need a realistic load (like, say, an
actual modem+router) for a realistic test.

A bad power adapter could account for that behavior.

First, DOCSIS cable-TV modem(+router) devices don't allow firmware
updates by users. Second, how would you do that if you can't talk to
the thing?

Not I, but I'd start by replacing (or more realistically testing) the
power adapter. What have you that can put out 12VDC at 3.5A (or close)?

Re: C6300 Router not working
Great info! Thanks for the response! More to do obviously.
Comcast was able to test, update and confirm its connection so I thought I could update its firmware.
What do I know? I'm in healthcare not IT.

_Comcast_ could do all that.
Visit http://netgear.com/support , put in your model number, and look
for Documentation. Get the User Manual. Read. Look for "firmware".
Don't expect to find much.

That was then.

You cannot update the firmware on cable modems. The ISPs don't like it. If you are lucky the ISP will roll out updates. Many don't bother.
If your firmware is outdated, you cannot manually upgrade your cable modem’s or modem router’s firmware. You must contact your Internet service provider (ISP) to upgrade your firmware.
