C7100V Modem Keeps Randomly Restarting

Randomly, my C7100V modem will reboot. I can't figure out why. I went into the EMTA Event Log and don't know what I'm looking at. Could someone tell what it is? Did it take an update or something? I Removed the IP address from the logs for security. If there's something else I can post, let me know. This Networking stuff is all new to me.

Re: C7100V Modem Keeps Randomly Restarting

Have the ISP check the signal and line quality UP to the modem.
Be sure there are no coax cable line splitters in the between the modem and ISP service box.
Be sure your using good quality RG6 coax cable up to the modem.

Has a factory reset been performed on the modem and setup from scratch?

Any Wifi Neighbors near by? If so, how many?

Hi, Thanks for the reply!
Has a factory reset been performed on the modem and setup from scratch? No, haven't done that recently.
Any Wifi Neighbors near by? Yes
If so, how many? Like 3

Re: C7100V Modem Keeps Randomly Restarting

It's a home run to the ground block and Comcast don't see any issues on their line/end.
Is there anything I could get from the boxe's logs?
Did you see something in the one I posted?

Re: C7100V Modem Keeps Randomly Restarting

Try setting manual channel 1, 6 or 11 on 2.4Ghz and any unused channel on 5Ghz.

Try a factory reset on the modem as setup from scratch.

Re: C7100V Modem Keeps Randomly Restarting

OK. I'll try this, but I want to be clear, the wifi isn't restarting, it's the actual modem. It just shuts off, then restarts. One instance, the land line just kept ringing and ringing, not like your getting a call, but different, much different. I'm thinking, modem going bad?
Again, I can post any logs for anyone to view.

Re: C7100V Modem Keeps Randomly Restarting

Try a reset and see if this still happens. Something to have NG look at.

Possible the modem maybe going bad.

DIsconnect the coax and such from the modem. Just connect up one wired PC. Access the modems web page. Does the modem continue to reboot?

Re: C7100V Modem Keeps Randomly Restarting

It only reboots randomly, like once a week or every 2 weeks or so. It don't reboot consistently enough for me to troubleshoot. I was hoping there was a log in it that I can upload here, so someone could read it see what happened.

Re: C7100V Modem Keeps Randomly Restarting

If random, then could be something wifi related. Try changing channels to see.

Maybe contact with NG support as they will be best qualified to look at the logs.

Re: C7100V Modem Keeps Randomly Restarting

Thank you for your help!
So, I'm not too familiar with this network stuff, but I dabbled a little. I used an app on my Android phone (wifi analysis). Now I understand why you told me to change wifi Channels. When it was set to "AUTO" I showed a lot of interferences. Which I thought automatically selected the best channel as it always searched. This app has a wifi diagnostics. I went through all the channels 1-11. While channel 3 had maybe 1 or 2 times it showed 50% of interference. But it seemed to be the best option for me. (don't know why). It also recommended different channels, but they didn't work so well. Had multiple interferences close to 90%. It also chose channels 13 & 14 which I don't have. Looking into that, I found they are banned from the US.
I'll see what happens here with this channel. I may reset the modem next and reconfigure my network as I have 19 devices connected to my 2.4Ghz wifi.

Try setting manual channel 1, 6 or 11 on 2.4Ghz and any unused channel on 5Ghz.

Channels above 11 are not seen or used in the USA. Only in EU regions.

Can you turn down the radio power Under Advanced Tab/Advanced Settings/Wireless Settings?

Re: C7100V Modem Keeps Randomly Restarting

@FURRYe38 Thanks for trying to help me!

I put the Channel on 1, 6 or 11 like you suggested. I ran the test with a wifi annalysis tool and all those channels had very bad interference. The only channel that didn't was 3. It only had 1. Should I disreguard the interferences/failures and just leave it on 1, 6 or 11 anyway?

Also, I don't see a power option in my advanced settings. (see attached screen shot).

I guess you're done with me and can't help me any longer? I sent you pm as well you didn't reply. I was trying to give you what you asked for, but didn't find what you needed.

Thanks for trying

"1 broken pretty at tap he said corks be causing the issue." Huh?

So did he fix this issue? Have you seen any more issues with wifi or the modem restarting since the tech was out to visit?

Yes, pick one of the 3 channels I mentioned with the lessor of other wifi users on them. I wish your modem had power level settings. Would be helpful in a wifi congested area.

Re: C7100V Modem Keeps Randomly Restarting

He didn't fix the broken port, he had to set that up for a line tech. I'll have to wait and see. But since I replaced the 90 degree angle connector he put on when they installed it, my levels got better. Thanks for your help. I'll keep you posted.
