CANT CONNECT XBOX ONE S VIA ETHERNET PORT

I have not been able to connect my xbox one s to the internet via ehternet port. 

Things I have tried:

rebooting gateway/xbox

turned on access control and added the xbox mac address

attempted to set up ports (even though I think I messed that up)

messed with the LAN and WAN

Can somebody please walk me through step by step on how figure out this issue?

   Why worry about the router instead of the Xbox?  Can you connect any
other computer/device to the C7000 using an Ethernet cable?  Or anything
at all?

   Any interesting LED indicators (like, say, LAN port status) on the

C7000?

   Other than connecting the cable between a LAN port on the router and
the Xbox?  Read the Xbox instructions?

   Enabling access control could only inhibit a connection, not enable
one.

I have connected to my old gateway supplied by xfinity before and never had issues. This is clearly a gateway issue with Netgear.

My PC connects just fine via ethernet port.

My gateway gives out an ember colored light every so often on the port that my xbox is connected to but does not stay solid for more than a second.

I dont know if I set up the ports recommended by Xbox support correctly or if theyre even being used effectivley. 

On the LAN side of things I just sort of clicked around and didnt know what I was doing honestly..

Any info helps really..
