CM1000 User Management vs SB8200
Just bought a SB8200 to go with my brand new Nighthawk S8000 and Nighthawk X10. You might wonder why a SB to pair up with Netgear. Truthfully, I've been a long time user and this was an upgrade. However, I have found that they no longer offer, at least with this model, the ability to change user name and password, update firmware yourself, or make any modifications. They say that is so because it's a modem only. I personally like the extra security of updating the access, and controlling the firmware updates. I can't imagine Cox wants that responsibility of updating my hardware either. I'm not usually one who updates the first day as I like others to be the gineau pigs to see if there are any bugs first.
QUESTION::
Can I have this control with the Netgear CM1000 modem?
Thank you much. Sorry, I'm not a technical guru.

CM1000 - FW upgrades - no, you will not be able to upgrade the FW yourself.
passwords - check page 18/19 on the user manual if this is what you are expecting - http://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/GDC/CM1000/CM1000_All_MSOs_UM_EN.pdf

Re: CM1000 User Management vs SB8200
Does it matter security wise if I can't change the login information to my modem since it's not a router as well?
