If you have 1Gb services from your ISP, the router you have currently may not fully support those speeds, so yes, I would upgrade the router. NGs R series or XR if your a gamer, or RAX if you need wifi AX support.

You might consider the R7800 or R7960P or R8000. I knows these two support 1Gb services. Unsure about the R7000P.
