Can I use my 6300 as router only?
Hi!
My internet provider (Spectrum) give me a new modem for free to work with new tecnlogy DOCS 3.1
I have a Netgear C6300 that was working as modem + router.
My question: is it possible to disable the modem function and make the C6300 works only as a router? Is there a way to use one of the ethernet port as input so I can connect the modem to that port and then the divice act as router?
or do I need to buy a new router?
Thanks,

Re: Can I use my 6300 as router only?
You can disable the DHCP server on the modem, set a IP address on the modem for what you use on your host router, i.e. 192.168.#.###
192.168.0.63 for example...
Has to be in same DHCP IP address range thats on the host router. Then connet the LAN cable from the host router to the LAN port on the modem. You can setup the wifi SSID and pw for your needs. Should work...

Has it a maker and model number? Is it a simple modem or a
modem+router?

No.

If you have only a modem, then you need a router with an Ethernet
WAN/Internet port.

Not really. If your (unspecified) "a new modem" is actually a modem
(and not a modem+router), then it has no "the DHCP server" to be
disabled. (Nor any other router-related features, including a wireless
interface.)
If you want to configure your C6300 as a wireless access point, then
see:

But that won't make it work as a router (with an external modem).
