Ethernet port switch

My router/modem combo has two ethernet ports, I need three to four. I was looking at getting a ethernet port switch and was wondering if I can just plug it into one of the ethernet ports or if I needed some special port or something to use it?

What is it?  Look for "Model" on the product label?

   Not one of those, obviously.

   "it"?

You shouldn't need to worry about which port to use at either end of
that cable, but it'd be easier to be confident if you provided a
realistic model number for your (unspecified) "My router/modem combo".

Re: Ethernet port switch

3700v2 is what it says next to model and I see nothing else labled as model or model number on the router. Sorry if I'm missing something I just don;t see where it would be aside from the spot labled model.

It refers to an ethernet  port switch. Basically wonder if I just plug an ethernet cord into an ethernet port on the router and into the back of the switch

Look again?  "3700v2" and "WNDR3700v2" are spelled differently for a
reason.  "C3700v2", perhaps?

Visit http://netgear.com/support , put in what might be your model
number, and look for Documentation.  Get the User Manual (at least).
Read.  Count the Ethernet ports in the manual.

   Should work.

The manual for a WNDR3700v2 would show you more than "two ethernet
ports".  Otherwise, not much use in this context.

Practically any cheap-Chinese Ethernet switch with enough ports and
"gigabit" or "1000" in its description should be good enough.

In the words of the philosopher Williams, "If you don't think too
good, don't think too much."
