Netgear C3700 locked out of router

I am going to give a general synopsis of my situation, trying not to not including irrelevant detail...

I have a general, more then novice understanding of how routers work. By no means am I the geek squad, I am just a mother trying to get by, so just understandable, easy to follow advice would be appreciated.

I have password protected and allowed/ disallowed devices on every router I have owned for decades due to the fact I have been " hacked" yes, really, " hacked", not a conspiracy theorist here, I am waiting for those answers of disbelief, but ya know what? I have been blocked from nearly every possible service and provider in the US. My ex husband , per se  is working for a government official, no names mentioned, true story. My life has been nothing short of hell on every device I own!  Am I f**ked? Yes. Nonetheless, I am trying to survive the best I can. I do not really want to live Amish.

Anyways, I occasionally change the password and security questions on my Netgear C3700 router... about a week ago, I went to routinely change the password out of habit. I was locked out instantly, long story short

I started using my bb hotspot . My cellular provider for my blackberry unlimited plan sent me a message they are cutting off my "unlimited" plan due to "high network activity"

Something to the effect of thousands of network packets going through my WiFi an hour. I was using a hot spot b/c the router is blocked. (I used one device on hotspot and eight were allowable.) The reason the router was blocked is because, I went to change the password and it said " if you change this password and forget your password, your router will be disabled" I said " ok fine, all good" I will not forget the password...before I went to confirm new password, I was logged out and blocked. Mind you, my year netgear tech support just ended.

I call Netgear, they refuse to troubleshoot, asking me " why do I need a password on my router"? Let's not get in to what I responded with. For a nominal fee, they can correct it again, mind you, I know what I am doing and I do not need to pay to regain access to my router, nor am I resetting it!!!! Let me say again, I am not resetting a router I had complete access to that I paid for, because in the past, when I did, it took Spectrum no less then five hours to reconnect the few devices I have in my home. MAC address misconfigurations, password and WiFi issues, you name it. They even spent a specialist from Maryland to help and four other Spectrum technicians and vans outside to no avail, for a day.

I QUITE SIMPLY CAN NOT GO THROUGH THIS AGAIN, WILLING TO PAY FOR AN OUTSIDE SOURCES SOLUTION!!!!! I can try to answer any questions anyone may have. Thank you!

Also, I have security questions on my router and have no access to answer them via the " cancel" button when I try to regain access.

Re: Netgear C3700 locked out of router

Factory reset the modem and setup from scratch. Disconnect it from the ISP coax, factory reset the modem and use a wired PC connected to the modem and set it up from scratch. Be sure to write down all important information. If you seem to be having these kinds of issues, you may want to get into a stand alone modem only unit, then connect up a external router of your choice so you have more control over the router and its' configuration. ISP modems can be problematic and be controlled by ISP as well. So avoid this and consider getting in to a modem only and connect up a external router that you have full control over. Theres nothing else we can do to help you get into the modem.
