Hello everybody, my PC is connected directly to Netgear CM1200 cable modem's port doesn't establish the internet connection for some reason.
However, I don't have such problem when my PC is connected to the router and the router is connected to the modem.
Any idea how can this be fixed?

Yes, at the same time. Why is that a problem?
yes, most ISP's only give a single IP address.
Some allow more than 1 but its rare and tends to business lines.
Port 1 and port 2 can be aggregated together for port aggregation. its also fairly rare in consumer routers to use.
That means, if you're not running a business line, have an ISP that allows multiple public IP addresses, or have a router that supports wan aggregation, only 1 port can be used at a time.
so for the average consumer, the cm1000 (1 ethernet port) or the cm1100 (2 ethernet ports) do everything they need.

are you leaving the pc and the router connected to the modem at one time?
If so, that'd be why

Called Netgear and they confirmed that has to do with my ISP and 1 IP address.

Sorry,
I wish Netgear had a bit more information on their boxes for educating the average users about basically only 1 port being useful for most people.
