Nighthawk AC1900 C7000 random disconnects every day- 2020 Edition

Hello all,

Starting a thread again, since the other threads are too old to be commented on.

It has been dropping the internet connection every day at the same time. Sometimes twice a day. Only solution I have found thus far is unplugging and re-plugging back in. I never had this problem with my old router and modem.

Called my ISP (Xfinity), they said it's a problem from the product not their service.

I've located other threads such as those below, those solutions haven't worked.

C7000 AC1900 modem/router keeps dropping connection.

Anybody found a solution to this yet?

Spoke with Support, these are the provided suggestions:

  1. Confirm lock status:
    >> Check Downstream Bonded Channels and Upstream Bonded Channels, Lock status should be locked
  2. Change wireless network settings:
    >> Select ADVANCED > Wireless
    >> Under Wireless Network (2.4GHz b/g/n) change the channel from auto to 11 and mode to the highest mode available over there.
    >> Under Wireless Network (5GHz b/g/n) change the channel from auto to 161 and mode to the highest mode available over there.
    >> Click the Apply button.
  3. To change the MTU size:
    >> Select ADVANCED > Setup > WAN Setup.
    >> In the MTU Size field, enter a value to 1472.
    >> Click the Apply button.
  4. Ensure latest firmware has been installed by ISP

Will try this for now. Anybody have any other suggestions?

Have the ISP check the signal and line quality UP to the modem.
Be sure there are not coax cable line splitters in the between the modem and ISP service box.
Be sure your using good quality RG6 coax cable up to the modem.

Check with the ISP for MTU value. Most cable ISPs use 1500.

Re: Nighthawk AC1900 C7000 random disconnects every day- 2020 Edition

I live in apartment where cable lines run from drop to invidual apartments. Last few weeks my C7000 has random Internet disconnects every few hours and rebooting fixes the issue temporarily. To eliminate Wi-Fi channel issue, I have connected to ethernet port directly and also have same frequent disconnects. ISP Optimum had a techician visit but could not locate any issue. Says the modem is overheating causing the disconnects.

The Upstram bonded channels only bond 4 (locked) out of total 8 with a 51 dBmV reading. When the Internet disconnect occurs the reading changes to 1 or 2 channels showing disconnected with a reading of 0 dBmV. Logs show 'SYNC Timing Synchronization failure - Failed to acquire QAM/QPSK symbol timing' and 'Received Response to Broadcast Maintenance Request, But no Unicast Maintenance opportunities received - T4 time out'

Should I try using 'signal booster active return'? any other suggestion would help. Thanks.

What happens if you turn OFF the wifi radios. Since you live in a apartment complex, the wfii neighbors maybe a cause of problems.

Re: Nighthawk AC1900 C7000 random disconnects every day- 2020 Edition

Per my understanding Wi-Fi radios affect only when connecting devices over Wi-Fi. Here is the issue of ISP connection dropping on modem. I get same disconnects even when I connect my laptop or desktop directly to ethernet. Also tried 'modem only' mode but same disconnect continues. When disconnected upload status channels shows 1 or 2 not connected out of total 4 bonded channels.

I had 100 MBPS Internet only link and just upgraded to 400MBPS. When the connection works I did get full 100 MBPS and now getting 400MBPS on devices without any buffering/issues but still getting disconnects at least 2 times daily. My thinking is probably the cable from ISP drop link to inside building to my apartment may have corroded.

My C7000 is still on firmware V1.01.28 while there is an update showing in Netgear website. C7000 does not allow self updating firmware so stuck on ISP for update. ISP says they will not update firmware as modem is not owned by ISP (bought it myself to stop paying monthly modem fee to ISP). Thanks

I would contact NG support about this. Seems like the modem is faulty.

Re: Nighthawk AC1900 C7000 random disconnects every day- 2020 Edition

Very odd and I do not have any correct explaination why my c7000 started working again.

C7000 working without any disconnect in last 3 days. All I did was run it 1 hour with a low powered Netgear 12V 1.5A adapter from another device which worked fine. Since I read in many posts that it may be cause a fire when running with a low power 1.5A adapter (c7000 uses a 3.5A adapter) I changed it back to the original 12V 3.5A adapter and it did not drop connection in last 3 days. Power is now less compared to 51 dBmV in all 4 locked channels earlier when it was dropping connection frequently.

I will post back if disconnect starts again. Thank you.
