Nighthawk AC1900 dropping 5ghz broadcast

My Nighthawk AC1900 recently stopped broadcasting the 5ghz channel. 5ghz is still enabled in settings. If I reset the router the 5ghz channel will reappear for a bit, but none of my devices can connect to it. After a few minutes the 5ghz network disappears. I tried creating a guest 5ghz channel and it does not work either. Anyone have any ideas?

"AC1900" is a speed, not a model number.  Ever helpful, Netgear
product packaging emphasizes speeds like "ACxxxx", but that's not the
model identifier.  Look at the product label.

   Firmware version?

Assuming that it's not a hardware problem, the usual first step would
be to bring the firmware up to date (or load some old, working version).
Then reset the router to its factory default settings, and reconfigure
it.

Visit http://netgear.com/support , put in your model number, and look
for Documentation.  Get the User Manual.  Look for "Factory Settings".

While you're in the neighborhood, firmware kits should be available

under Downloads.

Re: Nighthawk AC1900 dropping 5ghz broadcast

Thank you antinode. Sorry for the mididentification of model number, I grabbed that from the Amazon product page.

Model C7000

Firmware v1.01.28

I did a full factory reset of settings and the problem persists. I called Netgear customer support and they told me it was a software issue that they "could easily fix in less than 15 minutes remotely" but that since the product is out of their 3 month warranty, it would be $149.99 for them to fix it. Pretty disgusted with Netgear at the moment.

Ok.  Forget about updating your firmware (yourself).  For cable-TV
modem(+router)s, the ISP has exclusive control over that.

There have been multiple reports of wireless problems, on multiple
devices, caused by lame firmware, so there is still a chance that fresh
firmware will help.

Re: Nighthawk AC1900 dropping 5ghz broadcast

Gotcha. Well that's unfortunate. I went ahead and bought a new modem and router from TP Link. It's up and running great with equal range and speed for half the price. I know software/firmware issues happen with all devices all the time, but Netgear was so miserable to deal with I'll never buy their products again.

Thank you so much for your help antinode I really appreciate it.
